There’s a quiet revolution happening. You can feel it in the workplace, in our homes, even in the way we plan our days. Artificial Intelligence is no longer a distant concept—it’s here, in our pockets, on our screens, and increasingly, in our decisions.
And yet, as I often say to my incredible clients, the real opportunity isn’t in letting AI take over. It’s in using it to enhance, not replace what makes us human—our ideas, our work, our joys, and yes, even our challenges.
AI is a tool. A powerful one. It can help us discover, solve, and invent things that were once unimaginable. It can speed up the mundane, sharpen the complex, and offer a fresh lens on old problems. But it’s not infallible. Like us, it can misread the room, get the wrong end of the stick, or overcomplicate what simply needs a nudge in the right direction.
That’s why clarity matters. Being really clear about what AI is—and what it isn’t—is the next step in supporting human endeavour. Because while AI can do a lot, it can’t replace the power of human connection. The relationships, the instincts, the shared glances in a meeting room, the gut feelings that guide us—these are the things that have carried human civilisation to this point. And they still matter.
In fact, they matter more than ever.
Many of you may know my long-standing motto: “Move it, don’t lose it.” Originally a gentle nudge about diary and meeting management, it’s become something more. A reminder not to lose you—your instinct, your thinking, your guesswork, your glorious misjudgements—in the rush to automate.
So, if you’re wondering how to start using AI meaningfully, here are a few of my tips:
• Actually have a go – You won’t break it. Curiosity is your best teacher.
• Use it to educate and upskill – Let it show you how, not just do it for you.
• Be explicit in what you ask – What you put in is what you’ll get out.
• Get the balance right – If you’ve jumped to Co-pilot or ChatGPT too quickly, pause. Ask yourself: “Did I already know this?”
• Refine, enhance, professionalise – But keep it yours. Your voice, your values.
AI is here to stay. But so are we. And the best outcomes will come when we work together—human and machine, side by side, with clarity, purpose, and a healthy dollop of common sense.
